Grendel Hunter uppers are highly customizable. You aren’t stuck buying components that you’re just going to change out once you receive it. Get it built how you want it from the beginning. Here’s how it works:

For example, the base price includes our shortest handguard option that still covers the gas block. But if you prefer a longer handguard, you can upgrade it for a little bit more. This upper is solid and feels great in the hand. It also sends factory Hornady 123 gr SSTs where I aim them. Outstanding quality and customer service! Had a specific request regarding the upper color in my order and GH called to work out the details, upper arrived exactly as requested. Put about 100rds through it so far (40 Barnes TTSX, 20 Hornady ELD-M, 20 Hornady A-Max, 20 cheap steel-case) with a variety of 10 and 15rd mags (ASC, Duramag, AR Stoner). It’s been 100% reliable with everything. The gas block allowed me to tune it down to a very soft-recoiling action with a 6” suppressor. Accuracy has been excellent, 1moa with the Barnes and Hornady. I only have a 3x prism scope mounted so a higher mag scope and a better shooter would probably do a lot better.
I’m a stickler on weight; I usually build 5-5.5lb ARs that I enjoy carrying out while stalking game. The fluted barrel and 13” handguard (lighter than the 12”) was light enough to make me happy.
My only recommendation to GH: allow customers to send in their own parts (upper and handguard/barrel nut would make the most sense) to allow for greater customization out of the box. I’d be using my standard MI ULW handguard (titanium barrel nut version) and a slick-side forged upper to shave a few more ounces.
